The Business Intelligence Technology Manager oversees and executes ongoing development and operations of Business Intelligence (BI) environment. Manages BI reporting, analytics, development of new features and capabilities, and delivers dashboards and data visualizations. This position sets direction for their area of responsibility by translating strategic goals and objectives into plans and deliverables for the team. Influences policy, initiates and leads technical and business changes. Accountable for business objectives being delivered on time and within budget.

A DAY IN YOUR NEW CAREER:

  • Technology Representative
    • Acts as ambassador for all Technology related strategic priorities and communicates the vision to the department.
    • Gains stakeholder buy in on key initiatives and priorities for the team.
    • Collects and shares information and feedback from stakeholders to improve team efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Develops strong relationships up, down, and across all business lines.
    • Collaborates closely with key stakeholders to identify and implement process improvements, with the goal of streamlining business processes, adding efficiencies, implementing best practices, adding and improving cost controls and maximizing profits.
    • Interfaces with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities to increase efficiency and improve quality, quantify impact, prioritize initiatives, and develop execution plans.
  • Leadership
    • Prioritizes team workload and monitors progress and results
    • Acts as an escalation point for stakeholder conflicts and other teams and provides appropriate resolutions
    • Challenges team to develop solutions for the prevention of recurring user and technical issues
    • Supports the team as a liaison for cross-functional initiatives and projects
    • Motivates team to drive for results and remains highly engaged and accessible
  • Strategy & Delivery
    • Creates strategic plans for key initiatives; includes idea framing and roadmap development
    • Develops internal professional services best practices and collateral; includes 25% business case development, workshop techniques and templates, etc.
    • Analyzes data and information to produce reports for leadership and business partners
    • Creates and delivers professional presentations on the status of team projects, initiatives and deliverables
  • Business Intelligence Specific
    • Responsible for providing timely, accurate, and insightful reporting and analytics to all facets of the business
    • Prioritizes requests to deliver greatest business value
    • Collaborates with and understands planned development within all other facets of technology
    • Assists with the development of strategy for the technology stack in tight collaboration with Application and Database architects.
    • Plans resource capacity within Business Intelligence
    • Provides Business Intelligence guidance and insight to Technology leaders
    • Advises Technology management team in assessing budget, request for capital and provides input on variance reporting, forecasting, and risks.
    • Responsible for meeting project governance standards
    • Manages vendor(s) and contract(s). Negotiates and controls the terms and conditions of contracts. Holds vendors accountable for standards, including vendor performance management.

 

DESIRED BACKGROUND AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems from fully accredited four year institution is required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7+ years relevant IT or business/industry work experience is required.
  • 5+ years of experience managing teams.
  • 5+ years of experience with Microsoft Business Intelligence stack.
  • 5+ years of experience in roles with proven emphasis in continuous improvement.
  • Direct supervision for exempt employees within Business Intelligence and contractor resources.
  • Fulfills supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Knowledge and experience working with MS Office Suite, with strong Excel skills.
  • Must possess the required and relevant technical knowledge and skills for the area of work they manage.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Adept at working in a fast paced, changing environment while serving the needs of multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to react quickly and efficiently to developing situations with minimal information or data.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to understand the technical implications of business decisions and requests.
  • Effective communication, with well-developed interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, tact, and discretion.
  • Ability to translate technical language into user-friendly information.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure and not become defensive or irritated; acts as a settling influence in a crisis situation.
  • Ability to defuse tense situations and focus on the issues, not the emotions.
  • Ability to delegate both routine and important tasks to others.
  • Knowledgeable about ChemPoint’s existing technology inventory, and how clients/customers use technology to support the business.
  • Knowledgeable about current industry technology, systems, trends and changes in the business environment and operations.
  • Aptitude and desire to learn new technology and advances in technology.
  • Strong understanding of relational database structures, ETL processes, data aggregation.
  • Desire to self-educate on and explore new technologies related to Business Intelligence and analytics.
  • Skilled at translating business requirements into technical user stories and vice-versa.
  • Strong acumen for business processes (sales, marketing, finance, supply chain, operations).
  • Strong acumen for financial processes, emphasis on IT management.
  • Strong acumen towards organizational development.
